چکیده

purpose: to evaluate the complications of scleral perforation during strabismus surgery and the role of cryopexy, laser therapy, and conservative management in an animal model. methods: in this experimental study, 42 pigmented-eye rabbits were included. an s-24 needle attached to a 6-0 polyglactin suture was passed through the sclera and into the vitreous cavity in both eyes of the animals. one eye of the rabbits received either laser therapy (n=20) or cryopexy (n=22) and the fellow eyes were left untreated (n=42). the incidence of complications was compared between the three groups. results: cataracts developed in 7 (8.3%) eyes. corneal opacity and transient localized sub-retinal fluid around the break were observed in one (1.2%) eye each. other complications such as endophthalmitis and retinal detachment were not seen. there was no significant difference between the study groups in terms of complications. conclusion: vision-threatening complications following scleral perforation during strabismus surgery are uncommon and long-term follow-up is sufficient for management of this complication.

Incidence of inadvertent globe perforation during strabismus surgery.

Visual loss following strabismus is rare and usually follows inadvertent perforation of the globe at the time of surgery. Previous studies have reported that the incidence of this complication occurs in 8% to 12.1% of patients undergoing conventional strabismus surgery, and higher incidences have been reported for posterior fixation sutures. We conducted a prospective study to determine the inc...

Low-Level Laser Therapy Versus Electrical Stimulation for the Management of Acute Bell\'s Palsy: A Randomized Clinical Trial

Purpose: Electrotherapy is a common intervention for the rehabilitation of Bell’s palsy. Low-level laser therapy (LLLT) and electrical stimulation (ES) are two therapeutic interventions for Bell’s palsy that have been proven to be superior to conventional treatments. To date, no clinical trial has compared the effectiveness of these two interventions. This pilot study aims to compare the effect...

simulation and experimental studies for prediction mineral scale formation in oil field during mixing of injection and formation water

abstract: mineral scaling in oil and gas production equipment is one of the most important problem that occurs while water injection and it has been recognized to be a major operational problem. the incompatibility between injected and formation waters may result in inorganic scale precipitation in the equipment and reservoir and then reduction of oil production rate and water injection rate. ...

Cardiac Slowing during Strabismus Surgery.

CARDIAC arrest is a frightening complication which may confront a surgeon at any operation. It is fortunate that it is relatively uncommon, but there is a danger of false security. Eye surgeons face this complication less frequently than general or thoracic surgeons, but few ofthose who have practised for many years have not met cases of actual or threatened cardiac arrest.
